Summer Blueberries: An Oval Pedestal Coffee Table Makeover
Hello Frugalistas, I've missed you and it feels so good to be back! I've been MIA for the last two weeks while I burned the candle at both ends getting ready for the antique mall parking lot sale this past weekend. I have so much to share over the next several weeks but today it's all about Summer Blueberries and an Oval Pedestal Coffee Table Makeover.
It's Themed Furniture Makeover Day, my favorite day of the month! The theme is Red, White or Blue and you guessed it, I chose blue.
As I hinted above, the color is called Summer Blueberries, how could I resist. It's from the Country Chic Paint Spring 2015 Limited Edition line and I fell in love with the first brush stroke. Sadly it's no longer available and regretfully I didn't buy a bigger can.
Doesn't the color pair beautifully with white wax?
When Mr. Frugalista showed me the online auction listing of this table I told him to bid and keep bidding until it landed in the back of the Frugalistamobile. Yippee, he won!
I have a thing for pedestal tables but what really hooked me was the gorgeous wood top. I carefully sanded the veneer down to the natural wood and stained it Dark Walnut. Can you tell from the state of the can that I use this color often?
It took the color beautifully.
After the stain dried overnight, Mr. Frugalista sprayed two coats of Tough Coat protective finish.
The following morning I got to work painting the skirt and pedestal base. I decided not to distress this piece because I wanted the color and the white wax to take center stage.

I call it a Coffee Table but it was listed as a Cocktail Table.
I can't wait to see what the other DIY Furniture Girls created for their Red, White or Blue pieces.

You'll find this project linked to these fabulous PARTIES.

Tip 1: To achieve a factory finish appearance when applying a clear protective topcoat, use a paint sprayer rather than a foam brush.
Tip 2: To get colored wax deep into the crevices of a piece, cut the bristles of an inexpensive chip brush down to 1-inch. It works like a charm!
