Vintage Coastal Wrought Iron Nesting Tables Makeover
Remember the bright bold colors of 1950s coastal furniture? When Mr. Frugalista brought home a set of vintage metal nesting tables, my thoughts immediately went to the popular mid-century modern outdoor furniture style.
I knew that with little effort they could be refreshed in bold retro colors with a fun vintage coastal wrought iron nesting tables makeover.
Retro Coastal Wrought Iron Nesting Tables Makeover
Today is another Themed Furniture Makeover Day challenge and this month the theme is Coastal. Being a landlocked Canadian prairie girl with dreams of one day living near water, I was more than excited about our theme this month.
Here's where I started with these decorative mesh metal nesting tables that had seen their better days.
It was so quick and easy to redeem them to their former glory but with a fun bold coastal vibe perfect for a beach home or lake cottage.
Don't these pretty colors make you happy? I'm dating myself but they take me right back to my childhood.
Even when the painted wrought iron nesting tables are stacked, the colors still pop. They would look fabulous indoors in a mid-century-style home or outdoors on a poolside patio.

How To Give Wrought Iron Nesting Tables A Makeover
The most difficult part of this wrought iron nesting tables makeover is prepping them for paint, and that was fairly easy!
Prep Metal Nesting Tables For Paint
The first thing I did was lightly sand the tables with a 150-grit sanding pad to remove any chipping paint. Next, I cleaned the tables with warm soapy water and a damp microfibre cloth and let them dry.
Painting Wrought Iron Nesting Tables
Each table was spray-painted with two coats of paint in bright bold retro coastal colors. The largest nesting table is spray-painted with a bright glossy neutral white color for the bolder colors to nestle underneath.
The middle table is spray-painted with a pretty Coral gloss and the smallest table in a bold Aqua color. Can't get much easier than that!
Retro Gold Accent Color
The feet and the circle detail on the legs were just begging for some retro glam. Considering the tables were painted just a few hours prior, I used Delicate Surface Frog Tape to mask the area around the circles and legs to protect the paint.
Instead of spray painting the gold accent color, I used Gold Gilding Wax applied with my finger and let it dry for about thirty minutes before buffing it with a lint-free rag. I didn't have any on hand but you could use a bright gold spray paint instead.
Protecting Painted Wrought Iron Nesting Tables
The following day after everything was dry, I sprayed the tables with two coats of clear coat spray paint to protect the fresh paint finish.
I'm swooning over the retro coastal vibe of these wrought iron nesting tables. Whether you have a coastal home, lake cottage, or backyard pool, these tables would make such a fun statement. But if you are landlocked like me, these bring the coast to your deck, patio, or balcony in the Summer.
I'm not going to lie, that tall glass of lemonade didn't last long after taking this picture. So refreshing on one of the warmest days we've seen this June.
I loved the aqua spray paint color so much that I used it on this DIY Bistro Table, and Wrought Iron Plant Stand, and I couldn't resist using it on this Mid Century Coppercraft Mirror too.
