Easy Snowflake Craft To Make With Grandkids
Welcome to day four of the 12 Days of Christmas 2018 event! I hope you've been enjoying it so far and finding loads of holiday inspiration along the way. Today's theme is Kid's Christmas Craft Ideas and I'm sharing an easy snowflake craft to make with grandkids for ages five and up.
Everything you need to make them can be found at the dollar store so they are an inexpensive craft idea. Also, this simple craft only takes about an hour to make so they can be done while you're babysitting. How fun that the grandkids can take them home to hang in their room or give to Mom for a gift.
But these large snowflake ornaments are a great teacher's classroom holiday craft idea for their students to make to take home. But they'd also make an excellent teacher's gift craft idea too.

This one is embellished with silver gem stickers and small mirror beads.Ideas for hanging the large snowflake ornaments
The possibilities for hanging these snowflake ornaments are endless. Here are a few ideas I thought of for displaying them.- Hung traditionally on a tall Christmas tree with the reflection of the lights caught in the small mirrors.
- Because they are decorated on both sides they could be hung from a drapery rod in front of a window or with 3M hooks on a mirror.
- They could be hung from the ceiling at varying heights with small pins.
- Hung on a fireplace mantel with evergreen garland, silver or white cording or a strand of mini lights.
- Hung on the top of a dining hutch much the same way as idea four.
- Hung from a branch behind a sofa or above the fireplace, dining sideboard, or media cabinet.
- Hung on the doorknob of a child's room.

Supply list
- Large Wooden Snowflakes (pkg of 3)
- White Craft Paint
- Gold or Silver Glitter Paint (I used both)
- Small Craft Gemstones
- Small Craft Mirrors
- Hot Glue Gun or Craft Glue
- Elastic Cording or Thin Ribbon
Instructions for making large snowflake ornaments
Step 1 - Paint the snowflakes
Paint the snowflakes with acrylic craft paint. I painted mine a warm white but silver or any holiday color would be pretty too. You'll probably need two coats but thankfully the paint dries super quick so you can move onto the next step fairly quick. Good time for a milk and cookie break while the paint dries.Tip
Hang them to dry on a wooden dowel like I did or from the knobs on your kitchen cupboards or interior doors. Whatever works, right!Step 2 - Add some sparkle
Paint over the snowflakes with glitter paint. Just one coat is all you need. I painted three with gold glitter and the other three with silver.Step 3 - Embellish the snowflakes
Once the glitter is dry (it dries unbelievably quick) decorate the snowflakes with silver gems, miniature mirrors, or whatever you like. The quickest way to attach them is with a hot glue gun but if your grandchildren are young, a safer route is with white craft glue.Step 4 - Add some ribbon or string
Loop some thin ribbon or string through the hanger and you're done! I used a stretchy silver cording that I've had for over forty years leftover from making coffee tin Christmas cardholders (remember those?) with my grandfather. If you have any questions about this budget-friendly kid's craft, please leave them in the comment section below or press the Contact Me button at the top of the blog to drop me an email.
