We are under eight inches of snow and in an attempt to ignore the winter scene outdoors, I'm pretending Spring has arrived indoors. Instead of shopping for spring decor, I'm taking the budget-friendly route by shopping my home for the supplies I need to create Spring vignettes.

I found a couple of bronze metal mini flower urns that used to contain faux succulents and some spring floral picks in my craft bin and created these pretty upcycled farmhouse spring nest decor that took less than fifteen minutes to make.

DIY Budget-Friendly Farmhouse Spring Decor

The small succulent urn-style pots reminded me of egg cups and so my thoughts went to Easter. What a difference a little white paint made to give them a shabby chic charm.

My favorite part about this Spring decor idea is that it cost absolutely nothing to make but if you don't have the supplies available, you can find them inexpensively at the dollar store.

Here's How I Made It

We'll start with the upcycled mini flower pots. You could upcycle egg cups if you don't have any mini flower pots on hand.

Mini Flower Pots Painted White

It took mere minutes to give the metal bronze flower urns farmhouse-style with white paint that I had on hand. The nice thing about chalky paint is that it dries so quickly.

First I painted the pots with two thin coats of Behr Chalk Decorative paint in the color Tin White. To help the paint dry faster use a blow dryer or heat gun set on low.

I found the tin white to be too stark so I dry brushed (with very little paint on the brush) a layer of warm white to give them a vintage two-tone white patina.

Once the paint was dry I used a sheet of 150 grit sandpaper to distress the paint along the edges for more of a vintage shabby chic look.

Now we'll move onto the spring nests that rest on top of the painted flower urns.

DIY Spring Nest Decor

When making the DIY Easter Wreath that I shared last week, I removed the mini nests from the floral picks to use for this Spring craft. They were the perfect size for the small flower pots.

I found a bag of moss in my craft bin and pretty seed pearl floral picks that I used to embellish the grapevine nests.

I also found a bag of craft feathers and removed a few speckled eggs from the floral picks to add to the bird nests.

How easy are these adorable nests! But the best part is that they cost me nothing to make. Shopping our homes for the supplies we need to create seasonal vignettes challenges us to find unique and creative ways to decorate. I find it far more rewarding than simply going out and buying seasonal decor
