Has the return of everything pumpkin spice got you motivated to start decorating for Fall? If so, here's an idea for turning a cheap dollar-store picture frame into unique hello pumpkin burlap wall art for fall.

Also included are helpful tips on how to print on burlap fabric. Everything you'll need to make this fall craft can be found at the dollar store, making it budget-friendly.

Printed Burlap Fabric Fall Pumpkin Wall Decor

Add a pretty bow and this burlap fall wall art could be a unique alternative for a fall door wreath. Or it could be hung on an entry mirror to welcome guests, or incorporated into a Fall mantel or bookcase vignette.

I chose to hang mine on our kitchen chalkboard wall because I love the high contrast against the black wall color.

The motivation for creating the fall wall art came from a cheap plastic mirror that I found at the dollar store.

But the inspiration came from a small styrofoam pumpkin and sheets of burlap fabric.

Here's How I Made It

I've broken the tutorial into steps and we'll begin with the styrofoam pumpkin.

Styrofoam Pumpkin

The first thing you want to do is carefully slice a small styrofoam pumpkin in half with a serrated knife. There are readymade half pumpkins available online but I used what I had on hand. Besides, now I have another half pumpkin for fall crafting potential.

To Paint Or Not To Paint DIY Pumpkin Sign

This step is optional but styrofoam pumpkins look much more realistic when they are painted. Even painting them the same orange color, the texture of the paint gives them an upscaled patina.

I used orange chalk paint that I had on hand but acrylic craft paint works just fine too. I share tips and ideas on how to paint dollar-store pumpkins in another post.

To make the pumpkin look even more realistic, we'll deepen the color and highlight the spines. With a lint-free rag rub brown wax or brown glaze over the entire pumpkin, getting it deep into the spines and wiping away the excess as pictured above.

Pumpkin Leaves And Tendrils

For the leaves, I used a piece of leftover script burlap from the French burlap decoupage pumpkins that I made and attached them on the top of the half pumpkin with a dab of hot glue.

For the tendrils, I used green twine. Dip the twine in a bowl of thinned white craft glue. Wrap them around a pencil and let them dry. Remove them from the pencil, loosen the curls, and attach them to the pumpkin with a dab of hot glue.

The plastic stem that comes with the styrofoam pumpkins can also look cheap. Either paint them or replace them with a real pumpkin stem.

Pro Tip For Using Real Pumpkin Stems

If you buy real pumpkins, large or small, keep the pumpkin stems! They are great to use for faux pumpkin crafts the following year.

Simply let them dry on a paper towel for several days. The pumpkin stems that I'm using for today's fall craft are from the real mini pumpkin tealight candle holders that I made last year.

Attach the real pumpkin stem with a few dabs of hot glue. While I had the brown wax out, I rubbed some of it on the dried steam to darken the color.

Repurposed Dollar Store Frame

I wasn't a fan of the antique gold patina on my dollar store frame so I changed it to more earthy Fall colors instead.

Remove the glass, or in my case plastic mirror, from the frame. Spray paint the frame a brown color, I used a brown espresso color that I had on hand. I could have left the frame dark brown and it would have been just fine but I decided to highlight it with bronze gilding wax.

For a picture hanger, I simply hot-glued a strand of natural twine on the back of the frame. Now we're ready to have some fun with burlap!

How To Print On Burlap

The easiest way is to use real burlap scrapbook paper or burlap print paper. But did you know you can print on burlap fabric too?

But first, we need a graphic to print onto the burlap. I made the Hello Pumpkin graphic in PicMonkey. If you'd like to use my graphic, I've included a free unwatermarked printable. Just click on the graphic below to download.

I intentionally placed the graphic towards the top center both to accommodate the foam pumpkin beneath and in case it needs to be trimmed to fit a smaller picture frame.

If you don't have burlap scrapbook paper or burlap print paper I'll show you how easy it is to print on burlap fabric instead.

1. If your burlap has any wrinkles you'll want to iron the fabric first.
2. You'll need a sheet of cardstock paper, preferably a brown or tan color if your burlap doesn't have a tight weave.
3. Spray the cardstock with craft spray adhesive and align the weave nicely straight and set it on top.
4. Trim the burlap to fit the 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock so it fits in the printer feed.
5. Make sure you orientate the cardstock so it prints on the burlap side.
6. Change the printer settings to print in Best quality mode.

I printed mine on an inkjet printer and it came out lighter than I had hoped so I went over it with a black Sharpie marker.

Assembling DIY Fall Pumpkin Wall Art

Now that we have the burlap printed, the picture frame painted, and the pumpkin embellished and ready to go, we can assemble the DIY fall pumpkin wall art.

Trim the burlap to fit the frame - mine needed to be trimmed for a 7" x 9" opening. Set the burlap inside the frame followed by the original picture frame backing.

Last but not least, set the half pumpkin in place on the bottom half of the burlap and attach it with a hot glue gun.
