Holiday Movie Night - An Evening With Ebenezer Scrooge
An Evening With Ebenezer Scrooge - A Holiday Movie Night Tradition
What is your all-time favorite Christmas movie? Mine is Scrooge starring Alastair Sim from 1951. An adaptation from Charles Dickens' book, A Christmas Carol, published in 1843. Did you know it was released on Halloween? Anyway, call me a traditionalist but it isn't the holidays until I’ve watched it.
Does your family have a Christmas movie tradition? We make it an annual event and fire up the popcorn maker, gather our favorite snacks, and change into our comfy PJs. Our evening with Ebenezer Scrooge is a late one because we make it a Scrooge marathon, watching several of our favorite versions.
Welcome back to year six of our Festive Christmas Event where we team up with a bunch of talented blogging friends to bring you a plethora of creative ways to celebrate your holiday season.
We will be baking some cookie recipes for you, sharing some party games, making some handmade gifts, doing some ornament crafting, and sharing our Christmas movies family fun. There will be breakfast recipes and as always our decorated Christmas Trees which is always a fun tour of homes.

So fun! I can't believe you have your own popcorn maker!!! That's great!!
ReplyDeleteTania
We bought it when the kids were still at home and would often have friends over for movie nights. The two of us use it regularly during the winter months when we're hibernating indoors.
DeleteLooks like a cozy tradition. I must admit I've never seen this version, I guess I will need to give it a watch.
ReplyDeleteIf you enjoy old black & white movies then you'll love this one. I think Alastair Sim plays the best Ebenezer Scrooge!
DeleteWow! I didn't realize that there are so many different versions of the movie. I've only seen two of them!
ReplyDeleteI know, right! And there are more I didn't add to the list.
DeleteHoly smokes! I had no idea there were so many Scrooge movies. BTW - I love your movie watching area.
ReplyDeleteI know right, and I didn't include all of them! Thanks, it's a media room we built in our basement. We use it a lot in the winter for watching movies.
DeleteEbenezer Scrooge is such a good movie, too! Love your popcorn maker! Pinned!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra, we do enjoy our movie style popcorn maker.
DeleteLove this movie and I think the 1951 version really is the best. My kids were in a theater production of this show years ago, too, so it holds a special place in my heart. We have it on video so we watch is a Christmas classic!!
ReplyDeleteYou and I are kindred spirits - so much in common! This is always my go-to version to watch first. But I also really like the Jim Carrey version too - it's very well done.
DeleteWe have lots of family movie nights throughout the whole Christmas season and when the boys were younger I used to make themed snacks to go with each movie. Now we tend to just eat our favorite snacks in front of the fire by the light of the tree and just enjoy the time together.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like us, Joanne, we do the same!
DeleteWhat a great idea to make Christmas movie night special. This year we will not be attending Christmas parties so having some special nights at home will be important. Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kippi
Glad to have inspired, Kippi! Yup, I think holiday movies are going to be even more popular this year so why not make them extra special since we can't do anything else.
DeleteLooks like the perfect Christmas date night! We usually watch movies on the spur of the moment, but I may need to start planning ahead so we can get all dressed up, and eat/drink accordingly.

During the year we do too but when it comes to Christma movies, we make the event a little extra special.
DeleteI LOVE that you have a Christmas Carol Movie night!! So fun. And I really appreciate that you listed the 1970 Scrooge with Albert Finney- that is my ABSOLUTE favorite version that my family and I watch every year!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a fabulous musical version of Scrooge and Albert Finney is an excellent actor. Merry Christmas!
I love that your family also has a Christmas Carol movie night. I have to admit that I haven't seen the 1970 version but I've added it to my must watch list for this holiday season. My favourite is the 1951 version with Alistair Sim because its the one my family watched when I was a child. Enjoy your holiday movie night and Merry Christmas!
