Three Amazing DIY Water Features
The temperatures here in western Canada are finally warming up. In fact, we have had record highs over the last few days. After sitting outside on the patio, admiring the water wall that Mr. Frugalista and I had constructed, I decided I would share my three most popular DIY Water Features with you.
I hope it inspires you to create your very own to enjoy for the summer months ahead. These water features are budget-friendly and will save you money if you create them yourself. Most of the items that are needed to complete the projects are easy to find.
Budget-Friendly Water Feature Ideas For Outdoors
All three of the water features mentioned were constructed using repurposed items. Nothing goes to waste around here!
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of each water feature, almost all of the DIY projects shared here at Interior Frugalista have step-by-step tutorials so why not get your budget DIY on and subscribe. You can also follow us on Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
DIY Water Wall With Privacy Screen
I will start with the beautiful water wall that we built for our outside space. I have always wanted a water wall; however, if purchased new, they are pretty pricey. I am talking thousands of dollars! We made ours for around $300.
The gorgeous privacy screen added later and not pictured, was made with old louvered doors, which helped keep the cost down.
The water wall is one of my favorite water features in our backyard. It's calm and soothing, and it creates a beautiful and relaxing space. This DIY is a larger project which will require two people to complete.
However, if you have no construction experience, the following two water features are simple and easy and take no time to complete. And the great thing about these projects is you can use what you already have.
Old Plant Pots Turned Into A Water Fountain
I had extra flower pots lying around that I was not using. All of the flower pots were of various sizes, which made them suitable for stacking. You can use two or three of the old plant pots and upcycle them into a beautiful water feature.
The flower pot water fountain only takes a few supplies, especially if you already have the flower pots handy. It was easy to put together and did not take me very long.
Solar Powered DIY Tiered Flower Pot Fountain
The next water feature took literally 15 minutes to make. Yep, you read that correctly, only 15 minutes! And, if you already have the flower pots on hand, this DIY tiered flower pot solar fountain will only cost you around $20 bucks. However, if you have to purchase pots, you can certainly make the water feature for about $50.
UPDATE: We have since made a fourth water feature and this one is a DIY rechargeable solar fountain that lights up. The sun does the work to power this fountain both during the day and well into the evening.
In just eight simple steps, you have a unique flower pot solar fountain water feature to enjoy anywhere in your yard. Both flower pot water fountains would also make great gifts, especially for the garden lover.
I hope these water features will encourage you to make your own for your backyard space. Even if you have no construction experience, the two water fountains made from old flower pots can be quickly completed in just a few easy steps. And the best part is they are budget-friendly.

They're all beautiful, Marie, but the waterfall wall is my favorite. What a great piece!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim 😊 It's our favorite too, and we so enjoy the sound of the trickling water all summer long. The solar fountain comes in second because it doesn't require power cords to be run to the flower bed in our front yard.
DeleteGreat ideas Marie! I agree on the waterfall as well. It would be lovely if we could install something like that in our garden in Ohrid. We have a fountain with "live" water (I am not sure that is the technical term), and adding something like this would make the garden even more attractive and refreshing :)
ReplyDeleteWhat I would do to have a real waterfall running through our property - how lovely!
DeleteThat wall water feature is still one of my all time favorite projects. It's just so stunning and I bet you're loving all your creations even more right now with the heatwave you're all experiencing.
ReplyDeleteWe absolutely love our water wall and the sound of the trickling water. Our solar flower pot fountain in our front yard flower garden adds to the curb appeal of our home both day and night as it cascades away while illuminated into the wee hours of the night. But as much as we enjoy all three water features, the one that provided the biggest relief during the heatwave was the kiddie pool! LOL
DeleteIf we ever get our back yard done the way we want it, I want a water feature. Thanks for the ideas! Pinned.
ReplyDeleteYou're most welcome, Cherryl! If you have any questions when you're ready to make a water feature, you know where to find me. I'd be happy to help! 🙂
DeleteI love water features - pinned!
