I hope you enjoy and find inspiration with this list of budget-friendly DIY pumpkin ideas for decorating your home this fall.
Embroidery Hoop Pumpkin Ideas
We'll begin with a couple of ideas for repurposing embroidery hoops into pumpkins.
1) Rustic 3D Embroidery Hoop Pumpkin
How to make a three-dimensional pumpkin with recycled embroidery hoops and embellish them with preserved Spanish moss and floral picks from the dollar store.
2) Welcoming Embroidery Hoop Pumpkin Wreath
Here's another idea for a recycled embroidery hoop. This pumpkin hangs on the interior side of your front door or a mirror in an entry to welcome guests throughout the autumn season.
Recycled Fabric Pumpkin Ideas
Here are some ideas for making pumpkins with recycled fabric and sweaters. Each one of these has unique ideas for pumpkin stems.
3) Farmhouse Style Ticking Fabric Pumpkins
These pumpkins are a great way to use up fabric scraps or recycle old clothing. What makes these unique is the recycled vintage kitchen cabinet knobs for the stems.
4) Recycled Sweater Pumpkins
Making sweater pumpkins is a great way to clean out your closets by looking for old sweaters you no longer wear. No worries if you come out empty-handed because thrift stores are bursting with sweaters this time of year.
Like the farmhouse pumpkins, these also have recycled cabinet knob stems but the leaves are made with recycled fabric.
5) Recycled Retro Upholstery Fabric Pumpkins
These mid-century modern retro pumpkins are made with recycled upholstery fabric leftover from our flower power armchair makeover. They are a great way to recycle old pillows, draperies, or chair cushion fabric.
Unlike the previous fabric pumpkins, the stems on these fabric pumpkins are repurposed wooden chair spindles.
6) Burlap Fabric Pumpkins
These rustic pumpkins are made with a recycled burlap table runner from the dollar store. They're made exactly the same way as the ticking fabric and sweater pumpkins shared above.
The only difference with these is that the pumpkin stems have foraged tree branches. Simply attach the small branches to the top of the pumpkins with a hot glue gun and voila.
Upcycled Artificial Pumpkin Ideas
These next pumpkin ideas are for upcycling artificial plastic and foam pumpkins with paint.
7) Painted Dollar Store Pumpkins
It's so easy to transform cheap pumpkins and gourds from the dollar store with chalk paint. You can customize the colors to match the decor in any room of your home. They have a lovely matte finish and look beautiful displayed on a coffee table tray.
8) Rustic Activated Painted Stacked Pumpkin Topiaries
Here's an idea for using three different size artificial pumpkins to make unique stacked pumpkin topiaries to flank a door. It's so fun watching the rust-activated magic happen before your eyes!
9) Black, White, and Copper Stacked Pumpkin Topiaries
If you prefer a more modern approach to decorating for fall, these black and white painted stacked pumpkin topiaries are embellished with copper painted leaves and copper wire tendrils.
Decoupage Pumpkin Ideas
These next pumpkins are fun decoupage ideas with dollar store pumpkins and repurposed pumpkin shapes.
10) Decoupage Burlap Ribbon Pumpkins
Instead of painting inexpensive dollar store pumpkins, here's an idea for covering them in fabric or in this case, wide burlap ribbon. The pumpkin leaves are rust-activated painted leaves, much like the rust pumpkin topiaries above and the stems are recycled wine corks.
11) Faux Reclaimed Wood Decoupage Pumpkins
I love the pumpkins made with reclaimed wood that I'm seeing all over Pinterest. Here's a way to get the look without the reclaimed wood! Instead, these are made with realistic-looking reclaimed wood scrapbook paper and pumpkin shapes from the dollar store.
Last but not least is an idea for turning real mini pumpkins into tealights.
12) Real Mini Pumpkin Tealight Candle Holders
How to turn real mini pumpkins into pretty tealight candle holders for Fall. Line them up on a wooden table riser for a simple Thanksgiving table centerpiece. I also share how to preserve the pumpkin stems for next year's crafting potential.
